A Fluker Post is a wooden post that is put at a certain vantage point, where people can take and upload a photo via the Fluker Post Project App. These photos taken from the same point at different moments help to monitor and understand environmental changes over time…
The Fluker Post project is named after Dr Martin Fluker who created the system to allow the community to be part of monitoring river health.
We have two active Fluker Posts in West Gippsland, one at the rail trail footbridge overlooking Rainbow creek in Cowwarr and at the Powlett river/Kugerungmome car park at Dalyston.
When you are at the Fluker Post, follow the instructions given to take and upload your photo.
Rainbow Creek
When in Cowwarr you will find the Fluker Post on the rail trail footbridge overlooking Rainbow Creek. Photos taken from this point help us to understand the movement of the creek over time and inform management actions for the creek and the Thomson river nearby.
Powlett river/Kugerungmome
In the carpark near the Powlett river/Kugerungmome estuary, you will find the Fluker Post. Photos taken from this point help us to keep an eye on the river height and the impacts that a closed estuary mouth may have.
Thank you for your part in a healthy West Gippsland Catchment!
